You will learn how to equip your child with a wider array of appropriate motivations, social interactions and conversational skills. You will learn about ABA/Verbal Behaviour with the use of video taped illustrations as well as role-played examples of effective teaching strategies. Participants will learn how to teach children with autism across various learner levels (early through advanced) in both the natural environment and the intensive teaching environment: · What is ABA/VB? · What are Natural Environment Teaching and Intensive Teaching? · Errorless Teaching Procedures to use in each teaching environment · How to make learning fun and maintain learner cooperation when teaching · Using the ABLLS and ABLLS-R to develop verbal behaviour programs · Determining the function of problem behaviour · Teaching an unwilling learner to willingly hand over reinforcing Items/activities · How and when to use prompts whilst teaching · How and when to use reinforcement · Using stimulus-stimulus pairing to make new toys/activities valuable · Teaching children of all levels to engage in independent play · Learn how to prevent child errors when teaching & use error correction procedure · Problem Solving Strategies · How to contrive and manipulate motivation to teach language and other skills · How to teach the child to generalise skills across environments · Teaching early learners to request items and activities · Teaching language to non vocal learners using sign language · Transitioning from sign language to vocal verbal behaviour · Teaching Conversation to Advanced Learners, including answering and asking novel and spontaneous ‘wh’ format questions · Teaching social skills to all learner levels · Data collection including how and why to take data · How to begin your home program: how to tailor this to your family and financial situation Numbers are strictly limited.
